Body Image: A Corrupt Generation

Was this really just, what, 60 years ago?!

Since I'm a teenager, I find that nowadays, a teenager's self-confidence is pretty fragile, and something that has to do with that is their body, and how they feel about it.  It's always "I have to be skinny," "I'm not skinny enough," "I'm too fat."

And honestly, I can't blame them for feeling that way.  Yes, it's a wrong and twisted way of thinking, especially when some girls aren't drinking water because they thing it's giving them calories, but looking around, they don't really have anyone else to look up to, at least not enough.  Most of the people on billboards, in magazines, on TV, in movies... the vast majority of them are stick-thin.  That's - quite unfortunately - our generation's definition of beauty.  Beauty is being 5'7 and up.  Beauty is weighing 120 pounds.  Beauty fits in size 00 jeans.  And that's just a few of the requirements.

There aren't enough Jennifer Lawrence's, or Adele's to make up for the damage that has been done to this generation of girls' confidence.

DIY Wire Ring: Infinity

diy infinity wire ring

My friends introduced me to infinity rings a while and they went on and on about how much they loved them and I fell in love with them as well.   So I decided to make them (and myself) some around Christmastime.  And then, a few days ago, I realised that it fit perfectly in my DIY Wire Ring series, and it's one of those friends's birthday today - happy birthday Avya! - I figured that it was appropriate.

Sunday Funday: Sick Me and [Weekly] Loves and Discoveries

Large

Hi everyone! (Isn't this sweatshirt adorable?)

The world was kind of cruel to me this week - the one week I decide to start blogging every day, I get sick. Like, what?  Why is the timing so freaking bad?  Anywho, life is going to throw me obstacles disguised in viruses and I'm just going to have to deal with it.  Therefore, I am blogging.

Basically, on Sundays, it's going to be pretty random what I post about.  It will generally not be fashion-related, it's just going to be kind of a "chill" post, you know what I mean?  This is a chance for you guys to get to know me a little better, I guess.

Going on with the "chill" theme, I'm just going to tell you guys how things have been going, some things I've been loving, and some new discoveries.  In no particular order, of course.

Fashion Star Week 8: Menswear Dilemma

The designers (from left to right: Garrett and JesseRay, Cassandra, and Sylvia, missing: Daniel and Hunter)
I'm a huge fan of the reality/talent show Fashion Star.  If you've never heard of it before, it's basically where a group of fashion designers are selected to compete in ten weeks of challenges.  They are put into groups  mentored by Nicole Richie, John Varvatos, and Jessica Simpson and every week, they have to get bought by the buyers from Saks, Macy's or Express to be immune to elimination.  Of course, there are some exceptions, but that's the basic gist of it.  Also, the designs that get bought are sold at the stores that bought them, which is a really cool aspect of the show that I really like.  I will include the links underneath the photos of the pieces if you guys are interested in checking them out.

This week, the challenge was to design pieces for both women's and menswear.  Some of the designers haven't even stepped close to designing menswear, like Hunter, so it was definitely really interesting to see how they would cope under the pressure.

Sketchbook Friday: Flowy Pants

flowy pants

This post pretty much came about when I overheard my friends talking about how much they disliked flowy pants.  I personally love them, but I wouldn't be able to wear them because I'm barely 5'2 and it would swallow me up in a gulp.  (If that didn't make sense to you, well, I don't make sense half the time.)
Since I love these pants so much, I consulted my handy dandy sketchbook and this is what I came up with.

flowy pants

To me, this is kind of a resort look to me - I love how flowy and "chill" - for lack of a better word - it looks.  It just looks so carefree and bohemian and I'm really obsessed with that whole Free People/Anthropologie vibe.  Except the blouse completely switches it up and adds a certain quirky quality to it that is really different.

floral print flowy pants

These are just quick sketches of two floral patterns that I came up with that are options for the flowy, chiffon pants.

That's that!  Let me know what you think in the comments (if you'd like) and thanks for reading!  Have a great weekend everyone!

Spring Outfit Inspiration: Prints Charming

Spring Outfit Inspiration Prints Charming
Okay, forgive me for the exceptionally lame title - I actually love it so much.  I guess I'll start calling this my Spring (Outfit) Insipiration series, like officially calling it a series because it sounds so much cooler.  Anywho, on to the outfit.

3 Ways to Wear: The Chambray Shirt

chambray shirt

We've all seen that classic chambray shirt at some point, especially lately.  It's such a staple piece in anyone's wardrobe - you can dress it up, you can dress it down so easily.  If you were having some difficulties or are just looking for some inspiration, I hope that you'll enjoy this!

Eco-Friendly Fashion: Let's Do Our Part

earth day eco-friendly fashion

Happy Earth Day everyone!
Since today is Earth Day, I wanted to kind of showcase that.  It's our home and though every day is supposed to be Earth Day, I feel like every year when April 22nd rolls around, it's another harsh reminder to take better care of our home.  Who knows, maybe we'll decide that 2013 is the year.

I'm just going to update you guys quickly on what's going on with the blog.  I'm going to be posting every single day now, not just weekdays, just so you know. :)  Anyway, on to Earth Day.

Outfit of the Day: Blushing Leather

outfit inspiration spring leather jacket

This is just a casual outfit I wore to school one day.  I love mixing different textures and lace and leather has always been one of my favourite combinations.  I layered a cream, lace cami (from Smart Set) underneath a blush tank top and a white lace blouse, both from Dynamite.

It's still pretty chilly where I live, so I had to wear the leather jacket (from Fairweather) to keep warm.  You could wear a lighter jacket if it's warmer where you live (lucky ducks!).  And my classic blue jeans are from Old Navy.

At school, I don't really have the patience or the desire to wear any shoes that I have to lace up or what not (yes, I'm just that lazy).  There will be occasions when I'll break out my Converse, but since it still doesn't feel like spring where I am, boots (which are from the brand Blowfish) are my best friends and they're extremely comfortable, which is always a plus.

Spring Outfit Inspiration: Florals Galore!

Florals Galore spring outfit inspiration

Some people are really... chill with what they wear and don't really care.  Let's just say I'm not one of those people.  Since I'm just a teenager in school, I can't really wear this to school, but that doesn't mean that you can't!  Personally, I couldn't and wouldn't go to school wearing this because it would just be really impratical, but if you're confident enough to rock this, go ahead!

3 Ways to Wear: The Galaxy Trend

Two weeks ago, I wrote a post on my love for the galaxy trend and I promised you guys a post on how to style it.  It's a bit late due to my extremely hectic week, but here it is.  Enjoy!

One Month Blogging Anniversary!

As you could probably tell from the title, today's my one month blogging anniversary!  Woot woot!  In honour of this mini (and personal) blogging milestone, I put together this outfit with a Chanel-like perfume bottle on the tee for today.  I got it at Dynamite a while back and I absolutely adore it, even though the shirt isn't very good quality itself (it shrunk quite a bit after only a few washes and I think there are some holes somewhere on it...).

50's-Inspired Crop Tops

50's crop top

One of my favourite fashion eras is the 50's - the confident and flirty, yet somewhat conservative clothes, the full poodle skirts and the bright red lipstick has always been something that I love.  Though I don't wear clothes inspired by this time period often, or at all to be honest, I've always loved designing dresses and clothes inspired by it.  Today, I decided to show you some of them.

Links à la Mode - This Is So Cool!

links à la mode

Yesterday, I was on my way home from school when I saw that my post on my fashion analogy, "Fashion is a B*tch," was included in this week's Links à la Mode on IFB, which is crazy because, well, it's IFB - IFB is huge and amazing.  So thank you so much for including me, I'm honestly still in shock right now.  It's freaking cool how that happened.

This week's links are really amazing, so you guys should check them out (if you would like) down below.  I especially enjoyed the Year of the Serpent, the post about ethical fashion, and the piece on the self-confidence of beauty bloggers and vloggers.  Enjoy!

Remembering Lilly Pulitzer

lilly pulitzer quotes

To be completely honest with you, I didn't know who Lilly Pulitzer was until she died.  The first time I heard of her, well, her brand, was through either Elle or Blair Fowler's videos about organisation, which is pretty sad.  One of them was showing an agenda with a vibrant and really joyful pattern on it that I immediately fell in love with. So when I found out that she died, I immediately went to look up everything about her, her life, her collections, and most importantly, what she stood for.

3 Coachella Outfit Ideas for the Weekend

spring outfit inspiration coachella outfit ideas

Music festivals (in our case, Coachella) is quite the fashion central.  I'm really curious and excited to see the outfits that these festival-goers will come up with this year.  And to all of those lucky enough to go, to see the sun, hear the music, and see the fashion first-hand - I'm jealous.

I Want Her Closet!: Elle Fanning

elle fanning huffington post birthday

As you could probably tell from the title (or not...), Elle Fanning's style is seriously perfection, especially for a now fifteen-year-old (Happy Birthday Elle!). She's my personal fashion icon and I just love, love, LOVE her style.  Everything that she wears is so age-appropriate, but so amazingly quirky and unique at the same time. And since it's her birthday today, I decided to dedicate a whole post to her, not that I really needed the excuse.

DIY Wire Ring: Love

diy love wire ring

A quick update for you...

I'm going to be posting every single weekday unless something in my personal life comes up.  I thought I'd just let you guys know when to expect me.  Anyway, we're going to kick off the week with a DIY!  Enjoy!

I think that we've all seen the dainty rings at some point in time and I'm completely obsessed with them.  There really weren't any that I could find at the big stores like Forever 21 and I was kind of lazy to go on a hunt to find them, so I started to look up some DIY's for these wire rings.  I found a bunch of them and with a few modifications, I came up with this!  I haven't seen many, or any at all actually, with the word "love," so that's why I decided to post this one today.  I'll also be doing one for infinity rings, those rings that aren't like a full band (check out the link), skull rings, and maybe even a tragus cuff and an ear cuff, so keep an eye out for that if it's something you want to learn how to make.

Best Dressed: Week of April 1st: Olga Kurylenko

This "Best Dressed" title might be a bit misleading for those of you looking for the 20-slide or so collection of fancy celebrity looks of the week.  For me, Best Dressed means that I'm going to pick a look, or more than one depending on the week, that I absolutely adore from anyone, and I'm going to feature here.

I stumbled upon this photo on Elie Saab's Instagram of Olga Kurylenko who stars as Julia Rusakova in the new sci-fi movie, Oblivion along side Tom Cruise.  The movie is set in 2073, 60 years after an alien invasion that almost destroyed Earth.  I guess we better be on the lookout for an alien invasion theory some time soon, heh?

7 Must-Have Galaxy Pieces

Galaxy Trend

Some of you might not like this trend at all, you might think it's tacky, like it's science class on a t-shirt or something, but I personally love the galaxy trend that seems to be popping up everywhere.

In school, I've never actually liked science at any point in time.  I honestly think I hated it, so I guess it's kind of ironic or hypocritical or whatever that I'm pretty obsessed with the galaxy print.  I'm not a fan of the prints with large, more noticeable dots for stars because I think it looks kind of tacky, but I love love love the ones where the colours seem to blend seamlessly into each other and just look so dreamy.

To me, this print is just so different from your ordinary polka dot print, or floral print, etc. and it's a edgier and different and I love things like that.  Adding some edge to my outfits is something that I'm always trying to do.  I don't try to go too extreme in one direction for my outfits.  If I'm wearing a delicate pink chiffon dress with a creamy knit cardigan that gives a very girly and feminine feel, I'll throw on a pair of black studded boots to balance things out.  I'm kind of weird that way.  I think that the galaxy trend will just be a really cool addition to anyone's closet.

It's finally getting a bit warmer where I live, so being able to go out without a ridiculously poofy winter jacket is quite an accomplishment.

"Fashion Is a B*tch."

"Fashion is a b*tch." - Unknown

That's pretty much the most accurate and interesting statement I've ever come across.
