Tips for Dressing for Summer Weather When Out With Your Parents

Hi there! Sometimes, it's quite difficult to dress nicely when the weather is boiling hot and all you want to do is wear short shorts and tank tops. It's even more difficult when you're out with your parents and they want you to cover up, too. Here are a few outfit ideas (for different ends of the strict-o-meter) for those tricky times when you actually want to look cute when you go out with your family in the hot summer heat.

Strict-o-meter: 9

This is for those of you with parents who are definitely on the stricter side. Pick out a modest dress in a fun print and dress it up with a statement necklace (earrings work too!) and a natural lip. To complete the simple look, just add a pair of sparkly sandals for a sweet touch. Easy and simple is a great way to go, but to keep your outfit from being too simple, make sure that your jewellery is unique to make it stand out without having your parents give you a weird look and telling you to change.

This is for those with parents who are a bit more lenient, but nothing major. A jumpsuit is a fun silhouette that hasn't been overused for the summer time, especially a printed on with long sleeves. This one channels the whole 70's vibe that's coming back really well, and same goes for the suede sandals and gold jewellery. To add a bit of interest to an otherwise dull jumpsuit, add a belt as your statement piece. Finish off with a light pink lipstick that's reminiscent of your natural lip colour, but better.

If you're lucky enough to have parents who aren't that strict, you can definitely get away with a lot more. I wanted a look that seemed put-together, but not crazy edgy. Pick out a structured skirt (I went for a baby blue one with a sheer overlay) and a crop top with sleeves. An off-the-shoulder option is something fun and unexpected that you don't see often. Statement jewellery instantly elevates and outfit, so big necklaces are always a good go-to. For some height, I chose a pair or light brown suede booties and a bright pink lip for some drama.
